Redundancy in our system to protect your service
Flatrateonline.net offers products on four independently
maintained switching facilities in different states.
Two of the 4 switches have major tech centers in Miami, Florida.
Each of the four switches has 24/7/365 technical staff,
redundancy in the lines and back up power supply in
the event of emergency.
We do not use any of our switches for the incoming customer
support lines. However, we use them for outgoing international
calls. This creates additional redundancy outside of
our system.

Hurricane Wilma
Hurricane Wilma hit South Florida on Monday
24, 2005. During the hurricane, we lost all
basic systems including water, power, Internet
access and had to switch to the back up systems.
Despite the redundancy in our system, we do
depend on the normal infrastructure for some
basic need. Back up generators, for example,
require gas or diesel fuel. Long term loss of
power may result in short term interruption
of service. Gas stations cannot pump gas and
diesel which are needed for the generators.
If we are having a temporary problem and
your call is urgent, please contact customer
support and we will add the International conference
product to your account.
Local phone Service within Florida
If you are trying to call someone in the South Florida area, be patient. Bellsouth, the local Baby
Bell in the area, reported an interruption in local phone service due to loss of power. Bell South reports that 4.4 million of its 5.6 million lines in Florida have been affected by the hurricane. Many cell phones, homes and businesses in the area also depend on Bellsouth and may experience intermittent service.
What can you do to help maintain the phone system?
- Minimize calls to South Florida and
make them short when necessary. As mentioned
above, The local Baby Bell is stressed due
to lack of power. High call volume to South
Florida creates greater stress on the power
supply and results in more outages for your
friends and family. That is the reason cell
phones and home phones in the area may work
intermittently.
